There are so many decisions that go into a creative project. Knowing when something is good enough without getting stuck in the perfectionist trap can be incredibly hard to discern.

In this episode, John discusses his journey to find the right cover for his latest book, and the creative struggles and decisions he dealt with.

COVER EXAMPLES

Here is the first cover design. It comes off a bit cliched with the typical elements of a microphone and stage.

The next design was meant to show new growth and possibilities, but it comes off as a bit odd and scary.

My associate, Darlene, then came up with the puzzle concept.

The designer took the concept and came up with a cover that was close, but the image was too masculine (and the puzzle outline created an odd image on his chest).

At this point, I was utterly fed up with the process but asked for a microphone. The result is the final cover of the book.
