Hey there, this is John Henny, and on today’s vocal tip, I want to talk about why you need to be kind to yourself.

As I’m sure you are well aware, the voice is a very difficult instrument, there is much to balance muscles we need to control that we don’t have conscious awareness of and introducing stress into that system is never a good idea.

It’s really a non starter and if you are not kind to yourself, if you are not patient, as you progress vocally, you are going to end up introducing stress into the system and you’re just going to make things worse. You need to understand that the voice is not a linear journey. It’s not like the piano or the guitar where you go from page 1 to page 2.

You learn your E-cord then your G-cord, the voices constantly coming back over and over and rebalancing this instrument that we need to come in new to almost daily because the voice is ever changing, and it takes so much patience.

In order to do this, and you need to allow yourself to have bad vocal days. You can’t force this instrument. You just have to be kind and know that your hard work will be rewarded down the road, but in the meantime, be nice to yourself. Don’t beat yourself up and don’t stress out your instrument.
