Hey there this is John Henny and today I want to talk about Confusing Singing Terms.

Are you confused by terms such as chest voice and head voice, support, mix? Well, guess what? So our voice teachers because we will, endlessly argue about what a term means. And the problem is, these terms are often describing different aspects of singing. Take a term like a chest voice, you’re not singing from your chest. Your chest is not an effective acoustic resonator. All right, but you will feel sensations of sympathetic vibration within the chest. So singers have named it chest voice because of the sensation Now sometimes people will name a singing term over based upon the sound, whether it’s, you can argue that mix people say will say, Well, it sounds like a mix between these two registers.

But MCs can also go to what the singer feels that singer may feel this split between the two registers the sensations of chest and head, and then there’s this funny place in between. So what does MCs actually mean? And that’s not even bringing in the argument of does MCs exist or not.

So when you hear a singing term, and you see people arguing that just know that these terms are imperfect, and we’re trying to describe sound, and sensation and what is actually physically happening, and the term may be attempting to cover all three or just one or one person uses it to cover sensation the other person is using it to cover the sound. And that’s where we get the confusion. So, if you’re confused about singing terms we all are.
