Hey there, this is John Henny and on today’s vocal tip, I want to talk about Creating An Emotional Vocal Performance

One mistake I see singers making is when they decide to make an emotional choice for performance. They’ll just choose something like, sad or happy. It’s just a one-note monochrome emotion. And there’s no action in that and what I mean by that is you want to make choices where you are using an action verb ask yourself, why am I singing this song? While I’m singing this song, to inform or to rebuke, or to welcome and if you start choosing action verbs like that, then the emotions will start to show themselves.

Right now, I am choosing to instruct you and so my goal is to give you information and that is driving my actions at my moving hands, etc. So rather than choosing sad, choose I want to reveal or I want to rebuke or I want to warn and you will find different emotional contexts as well as the ability to change new wants emotion from line to line rather than just having one monochrome emotion run through the entire song.
