Hey there, this is John Henny and on today’s vocal tip, I want to talk about finding your chest voice.

The chest voice is a common singing term that refers to your lower register. And it’s so named because if you put your hand here and say, you’ll feel it vibrate in your chest. Now if you find that your chest voice is weak or that you’re kind of breathy or running out of air, a good way to establish the sensation is to take a tone like you’re reprimanding a child, I Ah, go ahead and do that and then go ahead and do that on a little scale.

Then, take an emotion-filled word like go and put a little intensity behind it, go go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go. You should feel more brightness, presence, and intensity in the voice. Now a word of warning. If you try and take this coordination up too high, you will experience something often referred to as a pulled chest or a shouting condition. So you want to be very careful. Don’t try and take this too high at first, just get used to the sensations and the sound.
