Hey there, this is John Henny and on today’s vocal tip, I want to talk about Having A Practice Checklist.

One mistake I see singers make and I will admit, I make this from time to time myself is going into the practice room without a clear idea of what it is you want to do and what you want to accomplish and we very often just are jumping from voice exercise to voice exercise to random bits of songs and I suggest that you have a checklist that you follow. Now this checklist can be fluid and that you can change it as you start to work on different things in your voice.

But it could look something like warming up doing exercises to build range, reviewing last week’s voice lesson that you may have had then working on sustains, tone, color vibrato, power, whatever it is that you want to focus on, and then working on some material very specifically and focused. Again, if we go into the practice room and we don’t have this checklist to follow, we kind of just start meandering around and wasting time, kind of like what we do online.
