Hey there, this is John Henny and on today’s vocal tip, I want to talk about singing softly to sing loud.

As singers, we all desire high powerful notes. But if we let our impatience get the best of us, we can really force our efforts, we will tend to over muscle in our rush to sing more strongly. So one of the key ways to develop your voice is to actually sing lighter and softly in order to develop the necessary coordinations.

The muscles of the voice are difficult to control. We don’t have direct awareness of them. So if we go too fast, too soon, we’re likely going to over muscle. So take your time, sing your scales gently and then bit by bit, add a little more resistance and a little more muscle and if you feel the voice start to lock up back off, if you practice patience, your voice will thank you for it.
