Hey there, this is John Henny. And in today’s tip, I want to talk about using vowels to sing higher.

When attempting to sing higher, you’ve probably done discovered that some words are easier to sing higher than others. And the bottom line is there are certain vowel sounds that acoustically will make it easier to go higher and we instinctively know this.

If we want to whoop and holler, we will say, whoo, we won’t say ahh because the wide A vowel out will tend to acoustically get us caught more in the throat. So when first learning to sing high, I would suggest on doing it lightly on very rounded, what we can call narrow or closed vows such as O, Ohh or E, Ehhh before attempting to do the more open vowels.

Now as you study you will find that vowels are going to need to tune or migrate towards a more centered sound more towards but that’s going to be for another tip. So for today, just work on extending your range on very narrow whoo and ehh values without worrying about volume or power quite yet.
