Hey there, this is John Henny and today I want to talk about Why Singers Need To Master Rhythm.

When listening to great singers like Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, Prince, Michael Jackson, they all have this amazing innate sense of rhythm. They know the difference between 16th notes and triplets, they can really get this feel into their singing and actually, their, their rhythmic sense becomes a part of the vocal hook.

They’re so rhythmically dynamic, they’re so able to lock into the beat and then move around and phrase around that beat that they’re always able to create new levels of excitement and interest in their vocal parts, and a great vocal needs to constantly recapture interest. So singers get a bad rap for often not being very rhythmical and not being able to keep time and it’s somewhat unfortunately earned.

I really encourage all singers to begin to study rhythm to work with metronomes to understand subdivisions and how they fit in to listen to their favorite singers and hear how they chop up the beat and work it into their performances. It will really, really help make you a world class singer.
